About Us image

Established in 1997, The club had its 25th Anniversary in 2022.

We are an Angling Trust Registered Club.

Starting out as a Lincolnshire Ambulance NHS Trust service sports and social club in the April of 1997 in the cathedral city of Lincoln, the club's membership consisted of ambulance staff, support service professionals, family and friends across the county.

Whilst no longer associated with the ambulance service today, over the years the club has grown and prospered; which is a tribute to our angling members and friends who have served as officers since formation- those still fishing with the club, those who have moved away from the county, and those members and friends who have sadly since departed.

An important part of the clubs history was in the early 2000's when the club joined forces with members from Sleaford Angling Club. One of the officers from Sleaford served this club with distinction for many years, and we were all greatly saddened at his sudden passing in late 2023. Without the significant contribution of Terry Moss, both on and off the bank, this club would not be in the position it is today,

This club has a long and distinguished history of match fishing. Whilst we have tried to unsuccessfully incorporate other fishing disciplines into the club in the past, we have since refocussed on match fishing on lakes and ponds. Thanks though to the river, fly, sea and carp fishermen that have supported us the past though, and hats off to you gents!!!

If you are new to or interested in match fishing on lakes and ponds, we would love to hear from you. Whilst we do have prize money and and AGM with trophies, presented at out AGM at the end of November every year, (there are variety of prizes including biggest fish, and a number of memorial match trophies), the prize money is not what you would expect at bigger angling events and festivals. However, that is not the point- we are a community club and not for profit. We are of the members; and for the members. Whilst we do have members that have gone on to fish at a higher level, really anyone in the club is in with a chance of winning a match!!!

As well as our website we have an active private WhatsApp group for members to stay in touch and to keep everyone up to date and current with what’s going on. You can also use this group to sell or donate tackle. Tackle donations very welcome from members for any new members, young and old who are starting up in match fishing.

We anticipate a 30th Anniversary Celebration in 2027 which will hopefully be without any restrictions, COVID or otherwise.

Tight lines for the forthcoming season!

Super League Rules image

1. The Lincolnshire Poachers Super League 2025 replaces the former Saturday and Sunday Leagues.

2. To be eligible for the Super League you must be a fully subscribed member in good standing.

3. To be eligible, you must fish a minimum of 14 matches throughout the 2025 season, with your best 10 results counting towards the final league standing. There are 29 matches this year, so plenty of matches and venues to have a go at!

4. The club supports all Fisheries and The Angling Trust- Barbless hooks must be used at all times.

5. There is a maximum allowed of 50lb per keep net, with a small margin for error of 5 lb. Any net weighing in over 55lb will be disqualified in matches.

6. Local Fishery Rules will apply at all times. Please check on these at the respective venue or ask another member or use the WhatsApp Group to avoid being ejected by The Fishery and/or being disqualified.

7. Super League scoring is on a minus system. That is to say the angler with the lowest points wins. For winning a match you will be awarded 1 point. The person finishing last will be awarded the number of the total anglers fishing on that day.

8. Bonus weight points are awarded, to be deducted from your score; 1 point for a 50lb bag, 2 points for a 100lb bag, up to a maximum of 3 points for a 150lb+ bag. So, if you win a match with 67lb, you will be awarded 1 point for winning, and a bonus 1 point deduction for a 50lb bag- This means you score net 0 (Zero) points for the match.

9. If you don't fish a match you will be awarded 25 points which is our membership number- So there is an incentive to fish matches to count for your qualifying 14 and best 10 matches!!

10. In the event of a tie in the Super League Table at any point, the total aggregate weight of an anglers 10 qualifying best score matches will decide placing and/or winner.

11. Mick B is the club's appointed Super League scorekeeper, and at the request of some members, the Super League Table will be published periodically as the season progresses. Update expected end May/early June.

Current to 6th May 2025. After 3 matches only. No one has yet qualified with the 14 required matches.

Specimen Cup image
Every year the club choose a species for the Specimen Cup Prize. For Season 2025, the chosen species is the Common Bream.

Current Leader as of 6th May 2025.

MR. CONSISTENTS EIAN AND MARTIN LEAD THE WAY! Its early doors, but congratulations to Eian S and Martin T for being incredibly consistent right from the start of the season! Eian is currently not only the early Super League leader, with Martin a close second, but is also the current Specimen Cup leader- this year the chosen species in Common Bream. Eian currently leads the Specimen Cup with a 3lb 2oz fish from Locklands Lake at Torksey. Some excellent performances too from Paul J, Keith B and Mick B, with a special mention to Dave G who pick up his first match fishing winnings ever at the recent match at Torksey. Well done mate! But its very early on in the season and there's plenty of matches left to climb up the ladder!! So far, its been a good season for me as I haven't fallen in yet, but did somehow manage to pour some hot coffee down one of wellies at Portland Waters last week. Now all dried out, it's onwards and upwards!!

June

FRANK ON THE BANK WILL BE BACK IN JUNE! Have no fear!! Frank will be back in June with a potted commentary on the Super League standings early June.

EOBC
I''d really never sea fished in the UK before prior to meeting club member Mick B, who moved up to Lincoln from Devon. A sea fishing man. A good club man.

Mick taught me such a lot and continues to do so. We had a deal that I would teach him to fish Lincolnshire ponds and lakes which he hadn't done before and in return he would teach me beachcasting.

I have even fished competitions with Mick, notably the European Open Beach Championship (EOBC) which I think that every angler should have a go at at least once as it is quite an experience.

Mick is known simply as "The Skipper". Thank you mate for your friendship.

Mick writes:

"The EOBC runs every year around late February, early March and attacts upwards of 1500 anglers to the Holderness Coast between Spurn Point and Bridlington. It is a 4 day event, but you don't have to fish every day. There are some decent prizes for the biggest fish, usually a Cod or a Ray on the Saturday and Sunday of around £2k.

Competitors come from all over the world, Including Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Poland and The Irish Republic, and of course from all over the UK. It is the biggest competition of its kind in Europe.

I took a few novices from this club a couple of years ago and although it was hard going, our entire group was out fished by a novice!

I'd be happy to help and encourage any club member get into Beach Fishing. In fact I look forward to it."

Please contact us if you'd like to have a bash at beachcasting...........
